A tragedy was averted, yesterday, when a fully-loaded plane of Air Peace had to abort landing at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri when the pilot discovered that the runway had been invaded by cows.
A fully-loaded Air Peace aircraft hovered over the Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri for some time after cows invaded the runway.
According to Vanguard, a passenger aboard the flight, Richard Akinola, said the pilot could not land until the runway was cleared by airport security.
The panic-stricken passengers, who initially thought the pilot deliberately aborted the landing, applauded him on being told that a major disaster had been averted as the landing runway had been taken over by cattle.
When Vanguard contacted Henrrietta Yakubu, the acting General Manager, Public Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN for details on the incident, she said she had not been briefed and promised to get back to them.
